One's appearance can change pretty drastically in 10 years, so you should not worry too much about it. Will the security folks think I am hiding something in my beard?

Turn up at the passport office and apply for a fast track passport which takes 4 hours. Keep the beard and make sure the photo in the new passport shows luxuriant growth.
